“Stop
the Violence, Use Your Talents”
Phase II
When and
Where:
February 25th 2006
(12 noon – 5 pm)
A. Phillip Randolph
Park - Jacksonville, FL
Intention:
Stop
the Violence Use Your Talents
is an event held within the inner
city at A. Phillip Randolph Park
in the heart of Jacksonville.
The first event was held on May
15, 2004 with almost 400 people
in attendance. Local radio station
92.7 – The Beat was there
with a live remote show in support
of yet another one of our love
ones Thomas Eugene Abrams, Jr.
who is musically known as Psycho
Versatile. Psycho Versatile was
murdered in the same community
in which his older cousin Rickie
Abrams was murdered 22 months
prior.
With
the constant rise of crime and
murder in the community we feel
that it is important to try and
promote the use of talents instead
of violence which will enable
the youth to be productive and
use their time wisely. The community
has seen its share of violence
and now it’s time to show
the talent that is also “IN
DA HOOD”. In memory of both
Rickie and Thomas Abrams Jr. whose
fathers have coached in the same
neighborhood for a combined 30
years, it is evident that their
families have made a point in
staying active within the community.
During
this event we will have a live
DJ and talent show for the kids.
The participants for the talent
show will be divided into 2 groups;
ages 5-10 and ages 10-15. The
winners in each age group will
receive a monetary prize as well
as: a Bungi book bag with school
supplies, a Bungi t-shirt, and
trophy. There will also be live
performances by local Jacksonville
artists, Bungi Entertainment recording
artists, and one of today’s
popular recording artists.
As
a part of reaching out to the
community Bungi Entertainment
recording artist E. Toriono Newkirk
(“Shot Out”) feels
the importance of creating the
Bond or Bury Foundation. It seems
as though there is an abundance
of drug money circulating in the
neighborhood, and less 9 to 5
money. Adversely more emphasis
is being placed on riding in a
new car with 24 inch rims, than
putting money up for court dates
that may arise or paying a life
policy and unexpected costs associated
with funeral arrangements.
This
foundation is designed to promote
the importance of health and life
insurance in urban communities.
Statistics show that the costs
of funerals are increasing every
year. Also, the government’s
$255.00 is the standard one time
benefit. The funeral associated
costs may be even more to bear
than the loss of a love one in
itself. To aid in getting the
foundation off of the ground,
we plan to have 3-4 attorneys
and insurance agents at the event
to prospect for applicants.
During
this event we are also planning
to have a food drive. The holiday
season is vastly approaching and
it would be such a blessing to
help some of the needy families
in the community for Christmas.
We will also be giving away awards
to those who have dedicated to
creating change and making a difference.
